Foothills School of Arts and Sciences is an independent (private) school in Boise, Idaho with pre-K through eighth grade.[2]

Foothills School of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1992 by Susan and John Medlin. The school was the first non-sectarian, independent school in Boise. Initially housed at the Boise Unitarian Fellowship, the school expanded to use all its available space by its third year of operation with K-6 students. The school relocated to its current location in 1995. In 1998, the school began a preschool program, funded in part by a grant from the J. A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation.[3] The school added a ninth grade in the 2009-10 school year.[4]
The school is a candidate member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools.
Foothills School is located in downtown Boise, opposite the Boise Public Library, main campus. The Foothills campus is a block from the entrance of Julia Davis Park, which is the home of Zoo Boise, the Boise Art Museum, Idaho State Historical Museum, and Idaho Black History Museum.[5] The School is situated on 8th street, the heart of Boise's downtown area that contains a pedestrian zone with numerous cafes and restaurants.[5] The School is within walking distance of the Idaho State Capitol and legislature buildings, as well as the prominent U.S. Bank building and all downtown office buildings. The Foothills campus sits along the Greenbelt, 22.5 miles of pathway along the Boise River Greenbelt corridor.[5]
